Responsibility Plan, organize, direct, and control the activities of the engineering team using specialized knowledge of general engineering principles, conceptual design, and development of tooling, machine design/layout and associated peripheral equipment. Review project schedules on a timely basis to ensure the engineering portion of projects are completed on time and take corrective action, coordinating with other departments as required. Work with the project coordinator to assess workload, capacity, assign leads to engineering projects, and oversee the completion according to specific deadlines and project schedules.
Manage the team with the Project coordinator within the project scope by forecasting, implementing and defining resource plans and alerting leadership of project variances early to prevent budget over-runs/schedule delays. Work closely with Innovation Director to provide subject matter expertise and support within agreed-upon timeframes to Sales, Project Engineering, and innovation projects. Conduct direct employee performance evaluations, recommend salary adjustments, and initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
Encourage and mentor team leads and direct employees to ensure that departmental morale and efficiency are maintained at the highest level. Conduct regular 1:1 with direct reports. Based on business goals and annual growth, establish and develop resource requirements skills and organizational needs that will sustain adequate capacity and leadership within the team.
Provide engineering expertise for projects progressing through the manufacturing, assembly, and system installation stages to ensure resolution of issues and technical difficulties. Interview and select new applicants on based on their technical qualifications and suitability for positions. Deploy Visual Management tools for the engineering team to improve workplace efficiency, goal achievement, technical design solution, quality, and company procedures.
Advocate and foster a team environment within both the department and throughout IWK / ATS. Emphasize continuous improvement as a long-term team goal and with the Director, implement procedures and programs to achieve improvements. Ensure quality design release approvals leveraging peer and inter-disciplinary team reviews.
Ensure designers maintain the Material master center, Center of Creation, Routing, Revisions, Updates in SAP (BOM and material), PDM system maintenance (SAP/ Solid work connection), Product group lists, and Machine model's assembly group list maintenance/updates. QualificationBachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering or relatedAt least 6 years experience in the same or similar field Design engineering background required Great communication and resource management skills Excellent time management Strong attention to detail and able to multitask Excellent delegator and mediator
